On behalf of the Salem Woods Civic Association’s Board of Directors and the community, welcome to Salem Woods.
R.G. Moore developed Salem Woods in the late 1970s and early 1980s. SWCA’s Article of Incorporation was established November 8, 1983.
As a community and through SWCA (pronounced “swika”), we work very hard to promote civility through community activities. We are not a homeowners association (HOA) with mandatory fees. We are a non-profit 501(c)(7) organization. Our ability to conduct business on behalf of Salem Woods depends upon voluntary membership each calendar year. Membership gives you a vote and a voice on policies as we plan for the future.
All households are members of SWCA in Salem Woods. Those that pay annual dues are “members in good standing” i.e. Active Members. Active membership fosters good will, improves security and neighborhood situational awareness. Active Members are able to vote on topics such as Directors for the SWCA Board, changes to policy, by-law changes, etc.
Quite frankly, membership provides the financial means to function as a civic association. SWCA benefits include community functions, social events, information exchange, voting rights, and access to the Board of Directors. But there is even a more fundamental reason to join the association – civic virtue. In the high calling of Thomas Jefferson, our Commonwealth and our community are based on civic virtue. Civic virtue is the cultivation of personal and social behavior and an overall philosophy that is important for the success of our community.
We welcome your thoughtful comments and suggestions. Our website is new (Feb 2023) and being constantly updated. In the near future you will be able view important community documents.
